Stratigraphy at Harappa.They are finding the use of settlement planning to define social and ritual status through analysis of the stratigraphy at the site.  Artisans all worked and lived in one area, wealthy merchants in another, laborers in another and even the squatter camp at the boundary of the ancient town which is now inhabited by a modern squatter camp.  The white tags show 16 meters of civilization from 3500-1900BC from earliest occupation to full urban phase.  The top of the mound is Harappan 1900BC.
