Cruise Ships and Shops Relfections

A many as six cruise ships a day can dock in Ketchikan during summer tourist season filling the streets with shoppers and sightseers for the afternoon.  Ketchikan which has a population of 17,000 can add numbers upwards of 9,000 people when several ships arrive.  Jewelry stores dominate the Front Street, most of which are owned by the cruise ships.  There are about 68 shops in town all vying for tourist dollars with diamonds and jewels,  Most close in the winter enabling their Pakistani workers to take business south.  Ketchikan was once a logging town but when the mill closed, it has turned to tourism.
