Islamic woman are the best drivers at Batu Hijau (Newmont) gold and copper mine. Aisma Tutu is a local Sumbaya woman from the village of Jereveh, she drives a truck that has 240 tons of rock that will yield about nine ounces of gold. The extraction average at Batu Hijau is .03 ounces of gold and .06 ounces of copper for every ton of rock that gets processed. These Islamic women listen to the country music that is piped into the cab and I also heard a one hour show of christian gospel music. The company says they want loud music in the cabs to keep them awake.
