Traditional Woman Potter and Modern Grandchild

Working all day making pottery in her home, Isidra Carballido is a contrast to her six year-old grand daughter Cecilia Mateos dressed in her modern clothing. The small village where they live is known for black pottery that turns dark when fired in a pit kiln because of the iron oxide in the local clay. They buy barro (black earth) and soak it in water for four days. It is filtered and then molded by hand and then dried.
